*Designing in Symbol Font*
Symbol Font works similar to arial font as far as lining things up. Picture your design like you are creating it on graph paper. Use the same symbol chracter in each vertical column.
Remember with Symbol font you need to press ctrl+s to turn on the symbol code, and press it again when you want the symbol code to stop (that goes for any other code as well). Symbol code MUST be the first code in the code combination, followed by any bold italics or underline you might use, and last is your color code and number.
Find the symbol you want to use in character map, (refer to previous lessons) and begin creating. The real trick to creating in Symbol font is remembering to use the same character in each column, and to turn off the symbol font again where you want it to stop.
Let's look at an example....

If that were in your alias box, you would be able to see that the same symbol character is in each column. When you build in symbols, you will notice that the character looks different than the one you have chosen, don't worry about this, when it is played through pirch, the ctrl + s will change it to the correct character.
Now lets try a design using symbol font in our own design... Open you alias box and give this a try.
ctrl+bk1,1.ctrl+sk4,1alt+0169©ctrl+sk1,1.ctrl+k12,12x $snick xctrl+k1,1.ctrl+sk4,1alt+0169©ctrl+sk1,1.
ctrl+bk1,1.ctrl+sk4,1alt+0169©ctrl+sk1,1.ctrl+k12,12xctrl+k12,1 $snick ctrl+k12,12xctrl+k1,1.ctrl+sk4,1alt+0169©ctrl+sk1,1.
ctrl+bk1,1.ctrl+sk4,1alt+0169©ctrl+sk1,1.ctrl+k12,12x $snick xctrl+k1,1.ctrl+sk4,1alt+0169©ctrl+sk1,1.
Give it a try, this will make a small 3 line popup that looks like this......
![]()
Sometimes when using symbol font your design wont line up even when following the guidlines I've stated so far. When this happens you just need to find where it is out of alignment, make sure you turn off any symbol codes and enter one of the following to line it up x`. Once you get used to how much space these three arial characters take up, it will be much easier to slip one in to help line up your designs. I know I say this in every lesson, but I'm going to say it again! lol Popup making is just a series of trials, errors, fixing, and yes... sometimes cussing (grin), till you get it right.
